Yay for Part 2 of our trip to Alaska! I loved sharing Part 1 with everyone last week! I write this as I am enjoying a vacation with my family in one of my favorite places on Earth – The Outer Banks, NC. My sister-in-law, Jen, took my son and I to this beautiful chapel tucked back in the forest of Juneau along the banks of the tidal area. Noah had so much fun with Aunt Jen throwing rocks into the water on the shore. On another day we took a hike through the rainforest trail on Douglas Island. The photo below is where the trail opened up to the shore. One day my husband’s brothers took us crabbing for Dungeness Crabs. Not the greatest photo, but there were Bald Eagles everywhere! Depending on the angle you looked at the water it had the most beautiful green color! Yep, I had fun hanging out with my bros on the boat! :) To follow the crabbing laws you can only harvest males that are larger than a certain size. So they were measuring them to be sure they were legal to keep. Those that weren’t were tossed back. As a Maryland girl who is accustomed to steaming live crabs, the Alaskan way of cleaning the crabs at the site was completely new to me! I am so grateful that I purchased the Kelly Moore 2 Sues bag before this trip! It made flying and traveling around on these hiking trips so much easier! I could carry my camera with lens, additional lens, as well as basic things for Noah (like extra diapers and wipes). Though full and heavy, it was so much nicer than carrying two bags around.
